N95 mask

The N95 mask is one of nine particulate protection masks certified by NIOSH (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health). "N" means intolerant oil (not resistant to oil), and "95" means that the particle concentration in the mask is more than 95% lower than the concentration in the exterior of the mask under a specified number of specially designed test particles. Of these, 95 per cent is not an average but a minimum. The level of protection is N95, which indicates that the filtering efficiency of the mask filters to non-oil particles (e.g. dust, acid fog, paint fog, microbes, etc.) is 95% under the test conditions specified by the NIOSH standard. N95 is not a specific product name and a product that meets the N95 standard and is reviewed through NIOSH can be called a “N95 mask”. The N90 mask is 90% filtering efficiency.

2. Scope of use of the N95 mask:

a Protection of medical and related personnel against air-borne respiratory infections.

b Basic protection for medical personnel or associated personnel, as well as protection against blood, body fluids and splatter during initial operation.

c One-time health care in the general environment, or containment or protection of particles other than pathogenic microorganisms such as pollen.

3 The other NIOSH-certified particle protection mask levels include: N95, N99, N100, R95, R99, R100, P95, P99 and P100, for a total of 9. These protection levels can cover N95.

"N" means intolerant oil (not resistant to oil), suitable for non-oily particulate matter, without time limitation.

“R” means oil resistant to oil, suitable for oily or non-oily particulate matter, for a period not exceeding eight hours if used for oily particulate matter protection.

"P" means oil protection, suitable for oily or non-oily particles, and if used for oily particles, the time of use shall be as recommended by the manufacturer.

"95", "99" and "100" are the filtration efficiency levels when tested with 0.3 μm particles. “95” means more than 95 per cent filtering, “99” means more than 99 per cent filtering and “100” means more than 99.7 per cent filtering.

II. KN95 Mask

KN95 is the classification of anti-particle masks in the national standard GB2626-2006 of China, which refers to masks with more than 95 per cent filtration efficiency for non-oil particles above 0.075 μm. The KN and KP categories are classified according to performance, and the KN category only applies to the filtering of non-oil particles, and the KP category applies to the filtering of oily particles.

KN series:

KN100: > 99.97% filtering efficiency for non-oil particles above 0.075 μm

KN95: More than 95% filtration efficiency for non-oil particles above 0.075 μm

KN90: > 90% filtration efficiency for non-oil particles above 0.075 μm
